This Microorganism is made of friends and artists met mostly in Atlanta, a heart and homeplace that continues a brave and long-term fight to stop Cop City, a $90+ mil project calling for the destruction and pollution of the Weelaunee forest in a low-income, majority black and brown neighborhood. Cop City is modeled after “Mini Gaza,” an IDF training grounds. Both seek to repress, colonize, and threaten the people using highly militarized “counterterrorism” tactics in which Israel exchanges and trains police through the GILEE program, founded by Zionist Robert Friedmann.
Our struggles are deeply interconnected. It will take masses of people continuously mobilizing through divestment, education, disruption, bravery, escalation to liberate Palestine and all oppressed peoples facing colonization, repression, genocide. Raising funds can aid the resistance, but it cannot exist alone.
Each of these artists infuse their sound with love, bravery, curiosity. Necessary art and fuel to continue fighting, tending, and risk-taking.
Beats From Inner-earth Theme is a live recording of friends interacting & creating sound together while honoring loss on día de los muertos at Proyectos Sidewalk at Ger-Art Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, 2023 at the opening of Beats and Bodies of Inner-earth, a fictional species project by Becca Rodriguez made to consider playful consideration of our evolutionary and social future. Using handmade ceramic instruments, dried fruit shakers, their own hands as bird calls, the group participated in ritualistic sound mapping. Pre-recorded noises played from ceramic vessels that participants moved around the room to shape the sound presented in the final recording.
Thanks so much to Nadia, Nat, Blake, Thaïs, Otoño, Park, Charles, Cal, Danielle, Ever, Kelsie, Emerald, Annalise, Harrison, Sergio, Noah, James, Melody, and many more for contributing sounds, art, and love to this project!
